Make the Most of Outdoor Lights

When most people put their lights, patio or deck lighting schemes, they provide for the provision of light for a relatively small number of people who are likely to be particularly active. The main activity is expected to be generally no more than people visit the bar or maybe step up to the grill or table to get something to eat.

Recently, however, my friend, and got engaged in all the circumstances, it is desirable to have the wedding at short notice. happy couple soon discovered that the traditional booking hall in the short term is undoable. Desperate, they decided that their acceptance of his parents' big, beautiful deck, which is connected to a short flight of stairs to the equally beautiful garden in the ground.

an existing patio and deck lighting is supplemented by some landscape lighting to highlight some flowers and shrubs in the area. However, all the lighting is low voltage variety, and not really adequate for a couple of dozen guests, milling around and dancing on the terrace.

We got together one night review of the situation, and decided that it needed additional lighting. We decided to take advantage of the presence of the deck to run the wiring to support a series of relatively low wattage flood lights for illuminating the garden fairly light to accommodate the dancing and the traditional garter toss. We arranged tables and seating along the side of the deck and garden border garden. wedding party sits on the board and guests on the terrace, where they could see the wedding up.

We have provided the oil lamps on the tables, using a pleasant scented oil. Border garden along the deck railings are installed oil burning torches, mounted high enough to softly illuminate some eight to ten foot radius to allow any smoke to drift harmlessly away.

By leveraging the number of trees in the yard behind the garden, we strung LED (Light Emitting Diode) icicle lights around the periphery. This allowed guests to wander around in the backyard to talk and socialize. Directly below deck there is a bar and catering line. We have installed some temporary reflectors below decks, and attached them to the rheostat, which allowed us to increase the brightness of the preparation and serving of food and smoke only when tape is in use.

Although the garden lighting set we inherited was not designed to accommodate upwards of fifty people, it all turned out very well.
